About

What is Hope Inn Christ

The purpose of Hope Inn Christ is two-fold: (1) To disciple young men so that they become strong Christians in all aspects of their lives, and (2) To equip young men with the educational, vocational, and social skills they need to lead successful lives. The two are equally important and inseparable.

Hope Inn Christ is an aftercare home for young men ages 18 to 21 who have been released from the Texas Juvenile Justice Department (TJJD), a juvenile corrections agency. A group of volunteers recognized the need for a transitional home that would provide the training and discipleship necessary for the young men to integrate back into society. The volunteers incorporated Hope Inn Christ in 2007 to develop a program of life skills for these young men that would ultimately help them to become Christian members of their community. In 2009, the ministry found an appropriate house in the country on 17.7 acres. The 5,400-square foot house sits atop a hill overlooking beautiful views of the surrounding countryside. This large home is divided into three halls, each with three bedrooms and a full bath, a large classroom, spacious den and fireplace, library, roomy kitchen, houseparent apartment, shop, storeroom, and a multipurpose room large enough for worship and fellowship. The property’s outbuildings include a guest house, barn, goat pens, chicken coop, tool shed, and well house. The land is suitable for agricultural projects and livestock care. In addition, the shop offers the potential for carpentry and other vocational training, such as small engine repair.

Potential Hope Inn Christ residents are interviewed before they leave the state facility. They must be willing to abide by the house rules and live according to the mission of the ministry. If selected, they may live at the home for one year. The home provides food, clothing, toiletries, and other necessities for the young men. House parents Cindy and Don Willis reside in the house and steer the programs toward personal responsibility, family dynamics, and work ethics. Hope Inn Christ relies on volunteer support. Members of the community and local churches help with everything from vocational instruction to relationship building to home maintenance. The ministry wants to see the young men active in, and engaged by, the community in general and the Christian community in particular.

Our program

Our program is solely for those young men who want to change their lives and live for Christ. They must be willing to participate in daily bible study and prayer and attend church weekly.  Youth will not be allowed to work the first 60 days of the program. The will spend this time becoming grounded in their faith and committed to prayer and Bible study. They will also be taught life skills including, but not limited to the following: apply and interview for jobs, budget their finances, plan and prepare meals, good work ethics, character education, and anger management. When they become employed, each resident will be required to tithe, put money in savings and pay a monthly service fee covering the expense of their room, food, transportation, etc.
